What is
the lead-time on generators?
Our generators our unique handcrafted kinetic sculptures. Each one is
built specifically for its owner. Lead times are typically 10-20
days. We will confirm your order immediately and also included an
estimated ship date.
How
are the generators shipped?
We ship our generators domestically via FedEx or UPS ground service.
You have a choice of two different methods of packing. We can
completely assemble the generator and package it in a customized
rigid shipping box, or we can ship the generator partially assembled
in three major assemblies packaged inside a cardboard carton.
If you choose the fully assembled method, we will completely assemble
your generator and place it in a custom wood crated for shipping.
There is an additional cost for this as the shipping crate ads to the
total weight of the shipment and we will also issue a call tag to
have the empty crate returned back to Electrostatic Arts. You may
also consider purchasing this crate if you plan on transporting your
generator on a regular basis. Complete details on the cost of this
shipping method are available in the Generator options section of
this website.
If you choose the normal shipping method, we will ship your generator
partially assembled. The frame, the discs and for some models the
charge collectors and discharge electrodes are shipped as separate
assemblies. It takes about ten minutes to assemble the generator
using only simple hand tools.
Is
shipping insurance available for the
generators?
Yes. Shipping insurance is highly recommended. Although we have
shipped many of these generators and have had no issues with shipping
damage, remember these are precision scientific instruments that are
of substantial value. Shipping insurance is inexpensive compared to
the value of the generator. See our Generator options section for
more details on the cost of shipping insurance.

Is
there any precautions that I should take when operating Electrostatic
Arts' apparatuses?
There are a few things you should be aware of prior to the
operation of any high voltage apparatus. Electrostatic generators are
capable of generating many thousands of volts. Never come near or in
contact with any part of the charge collectors, electrodes or discs
while operating the generator. Do not operate in any environment with
flammable gases, liquids or solids present. Do not operate in the
presence of people with a heart pacemaker. Children should never be
allowed to operate generators without competent adult
supervision.
Leyden jars are capable of storing significant amounts of electrical
energy. Glass Leyden jars have a tendency to build up an electrical
charge when left idle for extended periods of time. Always completely
discharge all Leyden jars using a proper discharge tool before
handling them. Children should never be allowed to handle Leyden jars
without competent adult supervision.
If you are unfamiliar with the operation of high voltage
electrostatic apparatus, please seek instruction and supervision from
a competent individual experienced in the proper use of these
instruments.
Electrostatic Arts' liability is limited to the value of the
apparatus.
