The
Bakken
A
center for education and learning that furthers the
understanding of the history, cultural context, and
applications of electricity and magnetism in the life
sciences and their benefits to contemporary society. Located
in a newly expanded Tudor mansion in Minneapolis, it holds a
research treasure of 11,000 rare books and 2,500 scientific
instruments relating to the role of electricity in life. The
Bakken was founded in 1975 by Earl E. Bakken, inventor of
the first transistorized cardiac pacemaker.
Teylers
Museum
The
Netherlands' oldest museum (1784). A visit to the Teylers
Museum is a like voyage through time, a voyage of discovery
in the world of art and science. With a little imagination,
you may see sparks flying from the world's largest
electrostatic generator. Unique to this museum is the
historical presentation of its collections, largely
unchanged since the late 18th and 19th centuries. As a
whole, the building and the collections are a monument to
two centuries of cultural history. Great site with excellent
images.

Molecular
Expressions
An
award winning website that is brought to you by Michael W.
Davidson and the Optical Microscopy Division of the National
High Magnetic Field Laboratory, a joint venture of The
Florida State University, the University of Florida, and the
Los Alamos National Laboratory. They have a great section on
Electricity and Magnetism
(http://microscopy.fsu.edu/electromag/) with several
outstanding Java Tutorials, as well as a variety of other
scientific subjects. It is certainly worth surfing around
on, especially the excellent Java Tutorial on
The
Powers of Ten.
Electrostatic
Demonstrations
By
Thomas B. Jones, Professor of Electrical Engineering,
University of Rochester.
Capacitance
and Dielectrics
By Joseph F. Alward, PhD, Department of Physics, University
of the Pacific. A thorough explanation of capacitors. Good
visual depictions with mathematical formulas.

Machines
A
website built and maintained by Dr. Antonio Carlos Moreiro
de Queiroz. Dr. Moreiro de Queiroz is an Associate Professor
at COPPE, Electrical Engineering Program, and at the
Electronic and Computer Engineering Department of the
Polytechnic School, University of Brazil/UFRJ. This sight
has lots of information (and images) on electrostatic
machines.
The
High Voltage Experimenter's Handbook
Jim Lux has put together a significant amount of useful
information for those who like to experiment with high
voltage. Some theory and engineering information along with
material data, etc. Definitely worth a look.
Bill
Beaty's Static Page
Bill has compiled a long list of links to articles,
projects, forums and companies pertaining to high voltage
and electrostatics. Lot's of good information especially for
the amateur scientist.
Antique
Wireless and Scientific Instruments
From the collection of John D. Jenkins. A great way to
showcase a lifetime pursuit. Wonderful images of fabulous
old instruments. This one is a must see!
